Proper starting and stopping of an Engine is a must because, it directly affects the Engine’s Life. Hence, the accurate ways for terminating Engines, for different bike specifications are given below

1. Normal bikes :

These bikes can be turned OFF by simply turning the Ignition switch (your Bike key) to extreme counter-clock position. This will shut down the entire bike’s system by disconnecting the bike’s Battery and the Ignition Coil. Provided that, the bike is in Neutral position.

2. Bikes with Engine Kill Switch :

The Engine kill switch is an additional feature in a motorcycle. The preliminary function of the switch is to turn the engine OFF with ease. Located near right handle bar for easy switching ON and OFF while in traffic. The main advantage of using the engine kill switch is that, it shuts the engine OFF, but the electronics are still in link with the battery. So, although the engine is not running, the rider can use the Instrument cluster, indicator lamps, pass light, hazard lights, horn. Engine kill switch turns OFF the engine by grounding the ignition circuit. In this segment of bikes, use the engine kill switch to halt the engine first. Then turn OFF the ignition key.

3. Bikes with radiator :

Some bikes (High capacity) come equipped with a radiator (Liquid cooling). If the engine coolant temperature reaches a preset temperature, ECU kicks in the Radiator Fan to facilitate cooling of the coolant and sending it back to the engine’s water jacket. These type of bikes should be turned OFF only after the radiator system stops. In layman terms, if the radiator fan is still running, just leave your bike in idling, after few minutes the radiator fan will stop for sure and then turn OFF the engine kill switch followed by turning OFF the ignition key.
