Maruti first took the call to discontinue the diesel engines in their portfolio and soon the entire car market in India was confused about the future of diesel engines. However with the below data of car registrations, it is clear that the path has been paved for petrol Engines which took to 60% of the total car registrations on 2020.

If you notice the way the change has been happening as the months went on from Jan 2020, the gap between Diesel & Petrol numbers has been widening.

Interestingly, though the gap between petrol & diesel engine has widened over a period of time, unlike many speculations of diesel engines coming to a dead end after BS6 norms kicked has been put to rest. Seems like things are not coming to an end for the diesel engines. Join the world’s largest network of professionals from the auto industry www.autoretailpro.com/joinus
